Olivia Cueva is a radical dreamer, inventor, and creative technologist designing for our world where we center care for people and the planet.

Some of her inventions include fashion technology that soothe menstrual cramps and assistive technology for elder care. She created a video game that celebrates weed and Rihanna (and sex toys!). Most recently, she led an innovative community tech center that designed free, cutting edge programing for youth, adults, and seniors in East Oakland. Olivia loves peoples’ stories and for many years was a radio journalist and traveled the U.S. interviewing, recording, and archiving the dynamic life stories of all kinds of people.

She grew up in Berkeley, CA, and is an alumni of YR Media (fka Youth Radio)! She received her bachelors in Broadcast Journalism from Brooklyn College, her masters in Interactive Design and Computational Media from ITP @ NYU, and she just wrapped up her directorship at the David E. Glover Emerging Technology Center, a groundbreaking intergenerational technology, education, and design studio.

She is currently navigating today’s world by designing fashion technology as tools for physical safety, creating her own post-masters curriculum, listening to LeVar Burton Reads, reading a TON of adrienne maree brown and plenty of sci fi, buying and wasting less, cooking more, and mentoring the young technologists who will guide the innovations that will transform our world.
